It's been a good week in Raleigh. On Sunday night, the Carolina Hurricanes raised the Stanley Cup, the reward for their commitment to teamwork and the pursuit of excellence. The City of Raleigh's Finance Department and the Budget and Management Department shared another accolade just as impressive. Not every champion ends their season with a parade, but that doesn't make their achievements any less important.
This week, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada named the City of Raleigh as a 2024 Triple Crown Winner. The GFOA's Triple Crown designation is in recognition of governmental bodies that receive the Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, as well as its Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award in a single fiscal year.
"I believe that sharing timely and accurate financial information ensures financial transparency," said City of Raleigh Chief Financial Officer Allison Bradsher. "That is the cornerstone in the foundation on which we rest the public's trust and our own accountability. Raleigh residents, businesses, and community partners want to understand how public funds are managed. These awards are in recognition of the financial transparency that ensures Raleigh communicates its stewardship and commitment to effective public service."
Of the more than 22,000 incorporated municipalities in the United States and Canada, Raleigh one of just 441 governments to receive the Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown designation represents a significant, year-long commitment to both excellence and transparency in government. Each award program recognizes governments that not only produce high quality reports, but that offer the clarity that paints a clear financial picture for its residents.
