SUBJ/VETERANS DAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. In our Nation's 250th year, we pause to
recognize the generations of Americans who answered the call to
serve, wore the uniform, and helped preserve the freedoms that
define our Nation.
2. Veterans of every Service and generation leave more than a
record of service. They leave behind lessons forged through
experience and traditions strengthened over time. They have
carried the responsibilities of leadership, stood alongside
teammates in difficult moments, and returned to their communities
with a continued commitment to others. Their influence remains
present in those who serve today and in the institutions and
Nation they helped shape.
3. To every veteran, we offer our enduring respect and
gratitude. You carried the responsibilities of service,
upheld our military's traditions, and helped shape the
institutions we inherited. To the Marines serving today, remember
that the legacy entrusted to you is not yours to keep but yours to
strengthen and pass on. The standards you uphold, the example you
set, and the care you show for your fellow Marines will shape the
Corps for the generations who follow.
4. Semper Fidelis, Eric M. Smith, General, U.S. Marine Corps,
Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
