Aurora Fire Rescue adjusts fire restrictions, moves back to Stage 1 status

AURORA, Colo. - Effective immediately, the city of Aurora will return to the standard year-round Stage 1 burn restrictions, announced Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR). The elevated Stage 2 fire restrictions in place since July 3 have been lifted.

The decision to lift the Stage 2 fire restrictions is made in light of regional fire-restriction status and based on a review of this week's fire-ban statistics. Arapahoe Adams, Douglas and Jefferson Counties are currently reporting no burn restrictions, and a statewide burn ban is not in effect.

AFR previously declared Stage 2 fire restrictions based on the totality of circumstances earlier this year. Multiple emergency and disaster declarations in response to numerous wildfires across the state were enacted. The three counties within Aurora had elevated fire restrictions. Further, the availability of mutual aid support for Aurora was limited as Front Range departments deployed firefighters and resources to combat the fires across Colorado and the western United States.

Aurora's Stage 2 restrictions prohibit recreational fires, bonfires, open or prescribed burns, outdoor smoking in all city parks and open spaces, small internal combustion engines lacking a spark arrestor, and model rockets. Under Stage 1, these are allowed, however all recreational fireworks are prohibited. According to Aurora city ordinance, the city maintains Stage 1 burn restrictions year-round except between June 15 and July 4, when restrictions may be adjusted as conditions dictate to allow the sale and use of legal recreational fireworks.
