City Celebrates National Night Out with Free Events August 4

Community members are invited to celebrate National Night Out with free events Tuesday, August 4. The annual event co-hosted by the Parks and Recreation and Lincoln Police departments promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood connection.

The events are as follows:

• Air Park Community Center at Arnold Heights Pool, 4000 NW. 46th St. - Enjoy hot dogs, chips, watermelon, activities, the Lincoln City Libraries Bookmobile, and Kona Ice beginning at 5 p.m., with a free swim night from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is presented by Lincoln City Libraries, the NW 48th Street Neighborhood Advisory Council, and the Arnold Heights Neighborhood Association.

• Belmont Recreation Center, 1234 Judson St. - This event includes open gym activities and a visit from Kona Ice from 5 to 7 p.m. This event is presented by the Belmont Elementary School through the Belmont Community Learning Center.

• Calvert Recreation Center at Henry Park playground, 4400 Prescott Ave. - Join friends and neighbors from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Henry Park playground for a hot dog cookout, yard games, and face painting.

• "F" Street Community Center, 1225 "F" St. - We'll gather from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to celebrate with music, a cookout, games, and prizes.

Maggie Stuckey-Ross, Parks and Recreation Director, said as part of this year's National Night Out, the City encourages residents to turn on porch lights, step outside, and join neighborhood gatherings that strengthen connection, awareness, and a shared commitment to safety.

"National Night Out highlights the everyday ways residents help make Lincoln a great place to live," Stuckey-Ross said. "When neighbors come together in parks, community centers, and shared outdoor spaces, it creates a sense of belonging and strengthens the connections that help people feel supported."

In addition to the City-sponsored events, the Lincoln Police Department will visit numerous neighborhood-led celebrations hosted by local watch groups, associations, and community organizations across the city.

"National Night Out is about building trust through positive, informal interactions," said Michon Morrow, Lincoln Police Department Chief. "When officers and residents have opportunities to connect, it strengthens relationships and creates safer neighborhoods."
