Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Meets with Newly Appointed Maldivian Foreign Minister H.E. Iruthisham Adam

On April 16, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Kong Xianhua met with the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, H.E. Iruthisham Adam. The two sides exchanged views on China-Maldives relations.

Ambassador Kong first conveyed congratulations from H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, on H.E. Iruthisham Adam's assumption of office. He noted that China-Maldives relations are currently at their best in history, and that China stands ready to work with the Maldives to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to take bilateral relations to new heights. Ambassador Kong also pointed out that the situation in the Middle East remains complex and evolving. H.E. President Xi Jinping has put forward the Four Propositions on Safeguarding and Promoting Peace and Stability in the Middle East, which provide a constructive approach to promoting peace and security in the Gulf and the Middle East region. China welcomes the Maldives' positive response and support in this regard.

H.E. Iruthisham Adam expressed appreciation for the congratulatory message from H.E. Wang Yi and thanked China for its longstanding and significant contributions to the Maldives' economic and social development. She spoke highly of China's important role in promoting ceasefire and ending conflicts. The Maldives will continue to firmly pursue a friendly policy toward China and adhere to the one China principle. She also expressed the expectation to further expand cooperation with China in such areas as economy and trade, infrastructure, health, and youth.
