WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) released the following statement after the Trump Administration instructed federal agencies Wednesday night to prepare for mass layoffs if the government shuts down Oct. 1, after federal funding runs out.
"This is exactly why President Trump and his enablers in the Senate want a government shutdown - to continue Elon Musk's cruel and callous witch hunt of federal workers.
"Federal workers work on behalf of the American people - making sure our seniors get their Social Security, helping our veterans access benefits, keeping our food and water safe, and more.
"For Republicans to use this shutdown, a result of their own incompetence and inability to negotiate, to fire these patriots right before the holidays is downright shameful."
