The rapid proliferation of unmanned aerial systems (UASs), particularly in defense and security applications, has exposed fundamental limitations in traditional radio frequency (RF) communication systems. Legacy sub-6 GHz links-while robust and long-range-are increasingly congested, vulnerable to detection, and susceptible to jamming in contested electromagnetic environments. As modern warfare and commercial drone operations evolve toward autonomy, swarm coordination, and real-time data exchange, communications infrastructure must evolve accordingly.
