Rep. Viola Davis Celebrates Successful Transportation Town Hall in Tucker, Highlights Collaboration between City, County and State Leaders to Address Community Transportation[...]

ATLANTA - State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) highlighted her recent Transportation Town Hall with the City of Tucker as a success and an example of effective collaboration, noting the strong turnout. The event was held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Tucker City Hall, and the event brought together residents, city officials, county leaders and representatives from the Georgia Department of Transportation to discuss transportation issues impacting Tucker and surrounding communities.

"This town hall is one of the first times that a local council member, county commissioner and state representative came together in response to a community request for more information on transportation," said Rep. Davis. "It is a perfect example of the power of collaboration and shows how we can better serve our residents when we work across jurisdictions."

Tucker Mayor Frank Auman opened the event with welcoming remarks, setting the stage for an evening of collaboration and community engagement.

The Georgia Department of Transportation, represented by District Engineer Paul DeNard and staff, provided updates on state-managed projects, including improvements to Mountain Industrial Boulevard and the Express Lane Expansion Project, which affects ten homes in the Tucker area. Residents were able to ask direct questions about project timelines, property impacts and safety concerns.

Councilwoman Cara Schroeder of the Tucker City Council played a pivotal role in organizing the event, while Commissioner Shakira Johnson ensured that DeKalb County transportation staff were present to provide information about projects in unincorporated DeKalb.

Rep. Davis notes that the event reinforced the importance of government transparency and resident engagement in shaping transportation solutions that directly impact neighborhoods.
