Does Your Product Require Sample Analysis by TTB's Lab?

While many alcohol beverages require formula approval from TTB, a limited number of alcohol beverages also require a laboratory sample analysis (lab sample) before they may be produced or imported and before the domestic producer or U.S. importer may apply for label approval.

We have easy-to-use tools on TTB.gov to enable you to determine if your product is one of the few that requires a lab sample. You can use our formula approval tool to see which alcohol beverages require formula approval - and it will also tell you if a lab sample is required - or you can view this quick reference chart (click the section header to expand and view the chart).

If your product does require the submission of a lab sample, check out our guidance on how to obtain a Formula Approval with Laboratory Sample Analysis, including how to fill out your formula application and send the sample to TTB.
