Houchin Announces Committee Approval of More Than $7.8 Million in Funding for IN-09

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) announced that seven Community Project Funding requests totaling more than $7.8 million for Indiana's Ninth District have been approved by the House Appropriations Committee after previously clearing the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.

"I was pleased to submit these funding requests on behalf of local leaders and am happy to see them clear the Appropriations Committee," said Congresswoman Houchin. "From improving roads and stormwater systems to supporting economic development and critical infrastructure, these investments will have a long-lasting impact in communities throughout southern Indiana. I will continue to fight for this funding to be secured."

The projects include:

$2,400,000 for Tapp/Vanguard Intersection Improvements in Bloomington: Funding will support safety and capacity improvements at the Tapp Road and Vanguard Parkway intersection in Bloomington to accommodate continued growth and improve traffic flow.

$1,500,000 for Batesville Stormwater System: Funding will support construction of a new stormwater system along Six Pine Ranch Road, increasing drainage capacity, supporting existing and future business development, and addressing aging infrastructure.

$1,181,000 for Georgetown Community Park Community Hub Completion: Funding will complete the final phase of Georgetown's community park project through construction of a permanent ADA-accessible restroom and amenities facility, along with supporting utility and sidewalk improvements.

$1,127,000 for Monon South Trail in Salem: Funding will support construction of approximately 1.5 miles of the Monon South Trail in Salem, helping expand recreational opportunities and connectivity as part of the larger 62.3-mile regional trail system.

$1,000,000for Ellettsville Sewer Expansion: Funding will expand sanitary sewer service near the Monroe County Airport through the construction of new force mains, lift stations, and related infrastructure to support future housing and industrial development.

$450,000 for Switzerland County TEC Rural Innovation Center: Funding will support capital improvements to the Switzerland County Technology and Education Center, including construction of a commercial teaching kitchen, development of a coworking space, accessibility upgrades, and infrastructure improvements to expand workforce training and entrepreneurship opportunities.

$210,000 for Floyd County Annex Blight Removal: Funding will support demolition and removal of a blighted structure identified in the Sam Peden Community Park Master Plan, improving public safety and supporting future community development.

Community Project Funding allows Members of Congress to advocate for projects requested by local governments and community stakeholders that address specific local needs.

The projects will now be considered as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act and must pass the full House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and be signed into law before funding is finalized. In FY2026, Congresswoman Houchin secured over $15 million in Community Project Funding for nine projects across IN-09.
