Veteran Services During Federal Government Shutdown
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has a contingency plan during federal government shutdowns. According to the VA, veteran health care and benefits will continue.
- Health care: VA medical centers and outpatient clinics will remain open and continue providing care.
- Payments: Disability compensation, pension, GI Bill, and housing payments will continue thanks to advance mandatory funding.
- Claims and appeals: VA will continue processing claims and appeals. Some non-essential outreach or support functions could be limited.
- Burial: Burials at VA national cemeteries continue.
