Veteran Services During Federal Government Shutdown

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has a contingency plan during federal government shutdowns. According to the VA, veteran health care and benefits will continue.

  • Health care: VA medical centers and outpatient clinics will remain open and continue providing care.
  • Payments: Disability compensation, pension, GI Bill, and housing payments will continue thanks to advance mandatory funding.
  • Claims and appeals: VA will continue processing claims and appeals. Some non-essential outreach or support functions could be limited.
  • Burial: Burials at VA national cemeteries continue.
