Creating Together

TEMPE, AZ - This year, students across Tempe's elementary, middle, and high schools will have the opportunity to learn directly from professional artist through in-school residencies.

Funded by Tempe Community Arts, 33 residencies will bring musicians, dancers, theater artists, visual artists and choral clinicians into schools for 16-sessions during the school year. These residencies give students meaningful opportunities to learn directly from working artists, while supporting fine arts teachers in providing high-quality arts instruction. Participating schools are located within Tempe Elementary School District, Kyrene School District, Tempe Union High School District, Tempe Preparatory Academy and New School for Arts and Academics.

These residencies reflect Tempe's ongoing commitment to enriching education through the arts and creating meaningful connections between students and the creative professionals working in our community today.

The public will get to see the impact of these collaborations through two major citywide events:

Dance Tempe - Feb. 3, 2026
Professional dancers work with dance students from all six Tempe Union High School District schools to create original dance pieces, which they perform in a showcase at the Tempe Center for the Arts. The public is invited to celebrate the students' creativity and collaboration with local artists.

Music Under the Stars - April 24, 2026
Held at Tempe Diablo Stadium, this event features band, mariachi and steel drum students from all six Tempe Union High School District schools alongside professional musicians from Arizona Wind Symphony, Tempe Winds and The Academy. The public is invited to enjoy live music free of charge in the open air with the event ending in fireworks.
