5 Things for July from Monterey County Free Libraries

5 Things for July 2026

Summertime is in full swing at Monterey County Free Libraries and we have many things for you to do, read, eat, watch and plan this month.

TO DO: Attend one of our fabulous summer programs as part of the Summer Reading Club. In July we have Puppet Arts Theater, Sterling Bubblesmith, Jungle James and Rhythm Builders performing at a branch near you. Find the calendar here. You don't want to miss a single show.

TO READ: Join the Summer Reading Club and get a FREE book. Track your reading and get a prize! We have a wide selection for all book lovers, from board books for the youngest patrons to Graphic Novels to Large Print books for those who prefer larger fonts. And if you are looking for something interesting to read, look at BookBrowse for reading suggestions!

TO EAT: Most branches are serving lunch all summer for students 18 years and younger. You can find the Lunch at the Library schedule here so bring your kids for a meal and stay for the activities including arts, crafts or STEM. Also, in case you didn't know, it's National Hot Dog Month, National Ice Cream Month, National Blueberry Month and National Picnic Month in July. So look on our social media for books or recipes for all those foods.

TO WATCH: July 24 is International Self-Care Day. MCFL staff created a plethora of Self-Care Sunday videos on our MCFL Virtual Programs YouTube Channel and you can watch the playlist. There are videos on Yoga, Breathing, the RAIN technique, Grief, Gratitude Journaling, and many other topics. We will post some videos weekly on Facebook and Instagram.

TO PLAN: All branch libraries will be closed on Saturday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. The Administrative office will be closed on Friday, July 3, to observe the holiday. Before we close, make sure you plan your visit to the library to pick up your books, DVDs and an Outdoor Adventure Kit from our Library of Things to have fun while the library is closed.

Summer is the best time of the year at the library so make sure you visit and read!
