Flood Preparedness Week: October 17-24

According to the National Weather Service, there's a 75% chance El Niño will reach record levels this year - exceeding previous El Niños dating back to 1950. El Niño means warmer ocean surface temperatures, increasing the available moisture in the atmosphere. While El Niño doesn't always coincide with increased heavy rainfalls, severe storms are possible and now is the time to prepare.

Steps to prepare now:

  • Clear leaves and debris from gutters, yards, and drains.
  • Trim trees, removing dead or diseased wood and overextended limbs.
  • Consider signing up for Adopt-a-Drain, to keep your nearby storm drain clear.
  • Stay informed: opt-in for alerts and notifications.
