WASHINGTON- Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) hosted U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy in Henderson, Kentucky for an aerial tour of active construction and progress on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing bridge project. Congressman Andy Barr (R-Ky.), Congressman Mark Messmer (R-Ind.), Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-Ind.), U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), Indiana Governor Mike Braun, Indiana Secretary of Transportation Matthew Ubelhor, Kentucky Secretary of Transportation Jim Gray, and other local officials also attended to discuss the ongoing efforts to modernize a critical portion of the Interstate 69 corridor.
Congressman Comer delivered the following remarks after the aerial tour of the project site: "I have the privilege of representing the Henderson, Kentucky, side of the Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing project. I am glad to see so many local and state officials and community partners from Henderson here today. I want to thank you all for your dedication to seeing this project through and for the investment of your time over the years. Your efforts have grown and developed Henderson's downtown area and made your community the prime example of how communities should foster entrepreneurship in young business owners. Today, we showed Secretary Duffy a bird's eye view of what interstate cooperation and regional growth looks like. I am proud of the progress made by county and local governments, as well as both state legislatures and departments of transportation to advance this project. As you can see from those gathered today, it is clear all levels of government are working together to make significant strides and investment toward the completion of the approach work in Kentucky and Indiana."
"Although many of us have a very local connection to this project, in the national landscape, it is a key component to completing the Interstate 69 corridor, which, when complete, will stretch the length of the United States. In his first several months on the job, Secretary Duffy has already shown his dedication to tackling large mega projects, like the I-69 Ohio River Crossing."
"Earlier this year he invited us into his office in D.C. to discuss ways the federal government can lend support to this project. He is committed to working with President Trump to secure over two billion dollars for the competitive INFRA grant program and the Bridge Investment Program in the upcoming year, which are the main federal funding sources for projects like this one."
"I thank Secretary Duffy for the opportunity to share highlights of each state's progress thus far and for his insight on the ways he and President Trump can utilize federal programs and opportunities to complete this critical connection."
