ESU Announces Women’s History Month Keynote Speaker

East Stroudsburg University has announced that this year's Women's History Month keynote speaker will be Alynah L. Morales '19. Her presentation, Women defying the Odds: How Women Transform Statistics into Stories, will take place on Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in Lower Sycamore Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Morales is a proud Afro-Latina, daughter of a Puerto Rican father and Dominican mother. She is a dedicated educator, leader, and advocate whose journey reflects passion, perseverance and service to others. A proud alumna of East Stroudsburg University, Morales graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and a minor in communications.

While at ESU, Morales was part of many efforts rooted in the advancement of and representation for students from diverse backgrounds like herself. She worked closely with administration, co-created a coalition with her peers and began groundwork for a National Latina organization at ESU. Morales also served as the president of the Ionia chapter of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc from her sophomore year until she graduated.

Since graduating from ESU, her primary work has been in education, working in the middle school and high school space serving the North Philadelphia area first as a teacher and now as an executive assistant to an assistant superintendent, overseeing all credential-based schools in the city of Philadelphia. Her impact expands beyond a classroom with roles in sports and athletics, coaching AAU middle school teams, working in operations and management at the Sporting Club at The Bellevue in Philadelphia, stats auditing for the NBA, and part-time work for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Women's History Month keynote presentation is sponsored by ESU's Gender and Sexuality Center. For more information about this event contact Genise Valcourt, coordinator of The Gender and Sexuality Center, at (570) 422-2733 or [email protected].
