NASHVILLE, Tenn. - At the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Soldiers and Airmen with the Tennessee National Guard continue to support state, county and local emergency responders across Middle and West Tennessee, including the major metropolitan areas of Nashville and Memphis, following impacts of severe winter weather.
Guardsmen were initially activated to assist stranded motorists, perform health and welfare checks, transport medical personnel to area hospitals, and other tasks as needed. Currently, their primary focus is on debris removal, road clearance, and supporting various agencies as they repair infrastructure.
Throughout Davidson County, more than 120 Soldiers are currently in 3-4 person teams, utilizing bobcats and chainsaws, clearing roads and removing debris throughout the Nashville area. Today, these Soldiers and Airmen cleared debris along Stanford Drive as well as Brook Hollow, Colice Jeanne, and Jocelyn Hollow roads, as well as other sites throughout the county.
Guardsmen are also performing similar missions in Hardin, Hickman, Lewis, and Perry Counties, where they are helping to clear debris and roads while supporting the local Emergency Management Agencies.
"I'm proud of everything our Guardsmen have been doing to support our fellow citizens following the storm," said Maj. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee's Adjutant General. "We are prepared to help our state and local communities for as long as we are needed."
