Rosen Requests Justice Department Inspector General Investigate Tom Homan for Reportedly Accepting $50,000 from Undercover FBI Agents

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) sent a letter requesting that Deputy Inspector General William Blier open an investigation into White House Border Czar, Tom Homan, for reportedly accepting a large cash payment from undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents posing as individuals seeking assistance securing government contracts. According to recent reporting, Homan was part of a sting operation regarding corruption and bribery - where he allegedly received $50,000 of possible taxpayer dollars.

"As Mr. Homan continues to serve in his role advancing the President's cruel and reckless mass deportation agenda, and as he prepares to fully lead enforcement operations in Minnesota, I request that you conduct a robust investigation into Mr. Homan's acceptance of the $50,000 cash payment from undercover FBI agents, and DOJ's handling of the case, to ensure Mr. Homan's fitness for the job," wrote Senator Rosen. "Furthermore, given that it is unclear what happened to the $50,000 provided to Mr. Homan in the sting operation. It is critical for your office to determine how Mr. Homan later used this money, particularly if the payment was funded by taxpayer dollars."

"The Border Czar - despite this Administration's cruel mass deportation policies and often violent practices - is supposed to be responsible for developing effective solutions to secure the border and keep Americans safe," continued Senator Rosen. "It is therefore deeply concerning that DOJ dismissed this case with very little explanation and allowed Mr. Homan to continue to lead, advise, and conduct the immigration policies of this Administration. At a time when ICE and CBP's immigration enforcement practices are at the forefront of the national consciousness, and as the Administration directs its personnel to employ inhumane and horrifying tactics, I am extremely concerned about Mr. Homan's ability to maintain public confidence and ethically and effectively perform his duties as White House Border Czar."

Senator Rosen has been outspoken about her efforts to push back on misconduct from Trump Administration officials. This week, she called for the impeachment of Kristi Noem and committed to voting against additional funding for ICE until significant reforms are enacted. Last year, she helped introduce the Protect Sensitive Locations Act, which would provide commonsense protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and churches. She also strongly denounced the Trump Administration for revoking a previously authorized TPS extension for immigrants from Venezuela. Additionally, Senator Rosen helped introduce legislation that would prohibit ICE officers and other federal immigration agents from concealing their identity during routine immigration enforcement operations.
