National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Robert Peters for Illinois' 2nd Congressional District.

"During his time as a state senator, Robert Peters consistently supported nurses who were organizing for better workplace conditions and holding hospital management accountable to its patients and nurses," said NNU President Mary Turner, RN. "We know he will continue to champion nurses' values of caring, compassion, and community in Congress. We look forward to working with Robert to win universal health care and to secure policies that will provide a better economic system for Illinois families."

"Our health care is in crisis. And rather than supporting policies that would strengthen public health, expand the VA, or provide universal health care, the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress want to hand over total control of our health care to private insurance and health care corporations who will worsen health outcomes in order to make a profit," said NNU President Turner.

"Robert has proven that he stands on the side of nurses and patients, and he will fight to rebuild a federal government that is responsive to the needs of working people."

"I'm grateful to have the support of National Nurses United, a steadfast partner in our fight for guaranteed health care and safe working conditions," said Peters. "Organizing alongside our hardworking nurses has inspired me for years, and I look forward to fighting for a system that puts patients and workers over profits."

NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses' values, including building a broad movement for transformative social change that includes safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. NNU looks forward to helping elect Robert Peters and working closely with him in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.

National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide. NNU affiliates include California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
