College Board Welcomes Incoming Leadership and Nine New Trustees

College Board

College Board welcomed 11 new trustees to its 31-member governing board following the Annual Meeting of Members at College Board Forum 2025 this week in New York City.

The new board members bring a wealth of experience and expertise from schools, districts, and universities across the country. These new Trustees were elected by College Board member delegates, and will represent different areas and segments of College Board's membership as follows:

National Trustees

  • Nathan Brostrom, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, University of California System, Oakland, California. He will serve a one-year term.
  • Victoria Chen, Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas.
  • Marvin Martinez, Chancellor, Rancho Santiago Community College District, Santa Ana, California.
  • Kelly Simmons, School Counselor, Streetsboro High School, Streetsboro, Ohio

Regional Trustees

  • David Backler, Superintendent, School Administrative Unit 20, Gorham, New Hampshire. He represents the New England region.
  • Danielle Epps, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland. She represents the Middle States region and will serve a 5-year term.
  • Heather Morrison, Director - P20 Partnerships, Office of Policy and Strategic Initiatives, Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, Jackson, Mississippi. She represents the Southern region.

National Assembly Trustees

  • Cynthia Glover Woods, Chief Academic Officer (retired), Riverside County Office of Education, Riverside, California (Academic Assembly) 
  • Angela Johnson, Vice President, Enrollment Management, Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, Ohio (CSS/Financial Assistance Assembly)
  • Rodney Morrison, former Vice President for Enrollment Management, University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware (Counseling and Admission Assembly) 

Appointment

  • Mark Thomas, Associate Principal, Niles West High School, Skokie, Illinois. Mark will serve a one-year term.

The Board of Trustees, made up of 31 members, serves as the primary governing body of College Board, a not-for-profit organization, with guidance from the three national assemblies and six regional assemblies. The chair, vice chair, immediately preceding chair, and CEO of the College Board, represent its leadership. Twelve Trustees are elected by the membership at the Annual Meeting of Members. Nine Trustees are elected by their respective regional assembly delegates. Six Trustees are elected by the national assembly delegates which include the chairs and immediately preceding chairs of the assemblies.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for fulfilling key fiduciary responsibilities, approving the mission, annual budget, strategic goals, and objectives of the organization, and advising the CEO, who is responsible for the management of the organization.
