Two Rodarte Community Center Boxers Attend the USA Boxing National Junior Olympics

GREELEY, Colo. - The Rodarte Community Center Boxing Club sent two athletes to the National Junior Olympics to compete. John Poland, 15 years old, and Viviana Carrillo, age 8, both qualified for the June 14-21 USA Boxing competition in Las Vegas.

Poland, a Northridge High School student, attended the Junior Olympics for the first time in the 165-pound weight class. Carrillo, who attends Maplewood Elementary School, competed for the first time at this level in the 65-pound weight class. This tournament ranks both boxers nationally for USA Boxing.

Coaches Jacob Sanchez and Enrique Garcia accompanied the boxers to the Junior Olympics. They dedicate their time to ensuring athletes develop the skills and techniques necessary to excel at the sport and compete.

Carrillo has been boxing with Rodarte for a couple of years and lost in the first round of the competition. Poland lost in the second round against the number one-ranked boxer in his weight class. He also has been training at Rodarte for several years.

The Rodarte Community Center offers a boxing program for both youth and adults. For more information about the club or other programs at the facility, visit RodarteCC.com or call 970-350-9430.
