Kansas City - On Friday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), met with business owners, educators, and community members in Kansas City, getting a first-hand look at programs that are strengthening local communities. His stops included Kanbe's Market, the Turner School District, and UltraTech Aerospace.
Highlights from the visits included:
Kanbe's Market
Senator Marshall toured Kanbe's Market, a Kansas City-based food distribution service that rescues surplus produce and provides affordable options across local neighborhoods. Kanbe's operates a cost-share model with partner stores, reinvesting 30% of sales revenue into communities while redirecting food from waste streams. The Senator praised the organization's efforts to open 30 new partner stores in Wyandotte County in 2025 and 20 more in Johnson County in 2026, benefiting hundreds of thousands of residents.
Turner School District
Senator Marshall also attended an event with the Turner School District, connecting with families participating in the district's federally funded "Parents as Teachers" program. The program promotes literacy, strengthens family well-being, and helps prevent child abuse, providing no-cost activities and resources through the district's Family Resource Center. Senator Marshall emphasized the importance of these programs for the district's 4,000 students, particularly in supporting families in underserved communities.
UltraTech Aerospace
At UltraTech Aerospace, a leading manufacturer of components and assemblies for commercial and defense aviation, including support for the F-35 fighter program, Senator Marshall discussed the importance of high-quality manufacturing jobs and the critical role Kansas companies play in national defense and the global aerospace market.
