Each year from September 15 to October 15, we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
In this video, you'll learn about the origins of the observance, which began in 1968 as a weeklong celebration and was later extended to a full month in 1988. The September 15 start date marks the anniversaries of independence for several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
For REALTORS®, this month is a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the diversity of the communities we serve. Celebrating different heritages helps us better understand our clients and continue our mission of helping all Illinoisans achieve the American dream of homeownership.
