WASHINGTON - AGA Board Chair and ONE Gas, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Sid McAnnally and AGA President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Harbert delivered remarks on the State of American Natural Gas today, highlighting the industry's readiness to deliver affordable, accessible and reliable energy that fuels American prosperity and protects household budgets to ensure a strong economic future in the United States.
Artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and new economic development are driving unprecedented energy demand. The natural gas industry leads the energy sector in delivering fast-to-market, reliable and affordable fuel and at the same time remains the most affordable way for American families to heat their homes this winter.
Selected Remarks
"I'm honored to step into this role at a time when our country faces both tremendous opportunities and challenges if we are to meet the demand for energy of all types," said McAnnally. Since 2006, US natural gas demand has grown by nearly 50%, and there's no sign of that slowing."
"Utilities are working closely with communities, public and private partners and regulators to safely meet the economic development opportunities emerging across the country," McAnnally continued. "We must ensure energy remains affordable for families and businesses. Managing the cost of service and its impact on customer bills is a key focus for our member companies. We are well positioned, considering the cost advantage natural gas provides."
"The market signals are being read by the producers," said Harbert. "Natural gas rigs are up 23% year over year. Prices amongst all of this remain relatively stable, with the U.S. Energy Information Administration's short term energy outlook forecasting declining natural gas commodity prices in 2026. That's all in the face of increased LNG exports. That's another record we're breaking, with exports projected to double over the next two years."
