Ginger Carrabine Selected as Texas Nominee for 2027 National Superintendent of the Year

Bryan ISD Superintendent Ginger Carrabine has been selected by TASA as Texas' nominee for 2027 National Superintendent of the Year, an award given by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Carrabine has served Bryan ISD for nine years, including four as superintendent, leading a district of approximately 16,000 students and 3,000 employees. Before becoming superintendent in 2022, she served as the district's deputy superintendent and chief of staff. She previously held teaching and administrative positions in Fort Bend ISD.

Committed to preparing students for success in college, careers, and public service, Carrabine has emphasized family and community engagement alongside transparency, safety, and security. Under her leadership, Bryan ISD partnered with BCS Habitat for Humanity to build its first home for a family in need. She also helped establish and sustain the Bryan ISD Showcase, which brings the community together to learn about the district's students, schools, and programs.

Carrabine has helped secure community support for major investments in Bryan ISD facilities, including a $397 million bond approved by voters in 2025, the largest in district history. The bond supports improvements across all campuses and addresses long-term infrastructure needs. She also played a key leadership role in two earlier bond elections totaling $187 million, which funded projects including Sadberry Intermediate School, expansions at Rudder High School and improvements to instructional and support facilities.

Carrabine earned her bachelor's degree in criminal justice and sociology from Lamar University and her master's degree in education from the University of Houston. She is also a graduate of The Holdsworth Center's Superintendent Leadership Program.

At the state level, Carrabine, a TASA member since 2017, serves on TASA's Legislative Committee and is a member of TASA's Commissioner's Cabinet of Superintendents. She also serves on the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council and the Region 6 Executive Committee.

Her community involvement includes service on the United Way of the Brazos Valley Board and the Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation advisory board, membership in the Bryan Rotary Club, and ex officio roles with the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce and the Bryan ISD Education Foundation. Her honors include Woman of the Year from the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley and recognition as a Transformational Leader by Texas A&M University's College of Education and Human Development.

Following her selection as Region 6 Superintendent of the Year, Carrabine was named the 2026 Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards on October 10. The state selection committee recognized her commitment to students and her ability to engage the community in supporting their success.

As Texas' nominee for AASA National Superintendent of the Year, Carrabine will be considered by a national panel of judges that will select four finalists. The 2027 National Superintendent of the Year will be announced, and the state nominees honored, at AASA's National Conference on Education, February 25-27, 2027, in Atlanta.
