Granville Resident Sentenced to Probation for Reckless Endangerment and Simple Assault

The Attorney General's Office today announced that Mark Balch Jr., 35, of Granville, Vermont, was sentenced in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division, after pleading guilty to one misdemeanor count of Reckless Endangerment and one misdemeanor count of Simple Assault.

The Court, Judge Alison Arms presiding, sentenced the defendant to one to two years in prison, all suspended with four years of probation. The Court ordered probation conditions that mandate completion of mental health and anger management treatment and prohibit Mr. Balch Jr. from possessing or using firearms and deadly weapons, from contacting the victim, and from engaging in violent or threatening behavior. The Court also ordered Mr. Balch to pay restitution for the victim's losses.

If Mr. Balch violates the terms of his probation, he faces up to two years in prison.
