FEMA Announces Additional $9 Million for South Carolina Recovery

ATLANTA -FEMA approved more than $9 million in funding to support 21 recovery and mitigation projects in South Carolina communities affected by Hurricane Helene and Tropical Storm Debby.

Notable recovery projects FEMA will fund include:

  • $3.3 million to South Carolina Department of Transportation for repairs to the North Burris Road bridge over Little Turkey Creek in York County following damage from Helene.
  • $771,000 to the city of Simpsonville for culvert repairs following Helene.
  • $680,000 to Laurens County for emergency protective measures taken following Helene.
  • $538,000 to Anderson County for road and bridge repair following Helene.
  • $434,000 to SJWD Water District to repair water control facilities damaged by Helene.
  • $413,000 to Oconee County for repairs to public parks and recreational facilities damaged by Tropical Storm Debby.
  • $393,000 to the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for repairs to public parks and recreational facilities damaged by Helene.
  • $391,000 to Greer Commission of Public Works for repairs to public utilities damaged by Helene.
  • $337,000 to Horry County for emergency protective measures taken following Tropical Storm Debby.
  • $299,000 to the City of Greenwood to fund debris removal operations following Helene.

FEMA is reimbursing these recovery costs at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments' response and recovery work.

Additionally, FEMA approved $161,000 to fund the East Richland County Public Service District backup pump at the Spring Valley Mobile Home Park Pump Station. FEMA is funding this project at a 75% federal cost share through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
