I-805 Closures at Palm Avenue September 29, October 1, 4 and 5

SAN DIEGO - Caltrans and The City of San Diego will close the northbound Interstate 805 (I-805) at Palm Avenue on Tuesday, September 29 and Sunday, October 4, and southbound Interstate 805 (I-805) at Palm Avenue on Thursday, October 1 and Monday, October 5 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for false work installation.

All southbound I-805 traffic will be detoured to westbound State Route 54 (SR-54). Southbound motorists connecting to westbound SR-54 may connect to southbound I-5, connect to eastbound State Route 905 (SR-905), and then reconnect to I-805. On-ramps south of SR-54 will remain open but will have to exit at Palm Avenue.

All northbound I-805 traffic will be detoured to westbound SR-905. Northbound motorists connecting to westbound SR-905 may connect to northbound I-5, connect to eastbound SR-54, and then reconnect to I-805. The northbound on-ramp at Palm Avenue will remain open.

The construction work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations. Please expect delays.

Palm Avenue / I-805 Interchange Improvements project is a collaborative project with Caltrans District 11 and the City of San Diego. The project will include the widening of the Palm Avenue overcrossing, as well as bike and pedestrian infrastructure, retaining walls, landscaping, and improvements to the Palm Ridge Park (parking lot). The project will improve traffic flow and upgrade infrastructure along Palm Avenue above Interstate 805.

Construction began in June 2026 with an estimated completion by Fall 2028. This $31 million project is funded by the City of San Diego and FHWA.

Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.
