Public Works Week in Review for September 4, 2025

The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

Below are some tips and projects they are working on:

Annual Traffic Signal Head Replacement

League City is upgrading traffic signal heads at four intersections along League City Parkway this year: Isla Vista, Marbella, Lawrence, and Columbia Memorial. The new signal heads will have a reflective border, making them easier to see at night and even during a power outage. This project is part of our annual goals to keep our traffic systems safe, reliable, and up to date with current standards.

Caterpillar 430F IT Loader Maintenance

A rigorous preventative maintenance program is essential for ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of the City's vehicles and equipment. This Caterpillar 430F IT Loader was brought to Fleet for a routine inspection. While in the shop, all four tires were replaced. During the process, maintenance personnel also identified worn tie rod ends needing replacement and repairs to leaking hydraulic cylinders. Most of the issues stemmed from standard, daily workload operations. However, the preventative maintenance inspection also helped identify additional concerns early, allowing them to be addressed before developing into significant problems. This proactive approach prolongs the machine's service life and ensures safe operation and smooth performance.
