Sacramento - As construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement "Fix50" Project continues toward completion, an 11-day closure of the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp to westbound US 50 for bridge work is scheduled. This includes a 55-hour lane reduction on US 50.
Crews will repair the bridge approach slab at the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp during the 11-day on-ramp closure. During the 55-hour lane reduction, crews will perform joint repair work at two bridge hinges that extend across several lanes.
The westbound US 50 lane reduction will begin around 53rd Street. During the daytime, lanes #4, #5, and the auxiliary lane will be closed, leaving three through lanes open. At nighttime, lane #3 will also be closed, reducing the number of available through lanes to two. Once the joint seal has been installed, it will take several hours for the seal to properly cure before it is safe to open to traffic.
11-Day Closure: Stockton Boulevard on-ramp to westbound US 50 from 10 p.m. Friday, May 8, to 4 a.m. Monday, May 18.
Suggested Detour:
Westbound US 50 55-Hour Lane Reduction: From 53rd Street to between 32nd Street and Alhambra Boulevard, from 9 p.m. Friday, May 15, to 4 a.m. Monday, May 18.
Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones, and pay close attention to advance warning signs. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate ## lane miles of pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy vehicle lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.
The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information, visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project on the Caltrans District 3 website.
Work is scheduled as listed but is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
