UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Named One of the Best Children's Hospitals in the Nation

CLEVELAND -University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital (UH Rainbow) has once again been recognized as one of the nation's Best Children's Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. In the 2025-2026 rankings, UH Rainbow earned a place among the top 50 in all 11 pediatric specialties, seven of which are in the top 25. This achievement places UH Rainbow #3 in both Ohio and the Midwest.

"We are proud to be recognized again as one of the country's leading children's hospitals," said Marissa Kiefer, President of UH Rainbow and UH MacDonald Women's Hospital. "Families rely on these rankings when making important decisions about their child's healthcare, and this honor reflects the skill and compassion of our physicians, nurses, and caregivers. Every day, they put their patients and families first, and this recognition belongs to them."

UH Rainbow's nationally ranked specialties include:

  • Neonatology (10)
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology (13)
  • Orthopedics (14)
  • Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (15)
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery (21)
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery (22)
  • Urology (23)

  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (47)
  • Behavioral Health(a specialty recently added to the rankings that is not specifically ranked numerically)

"Our depth of expertise in pediatrics - from premature infants to young adults with cancer, and families managing complex diabetes and scoliosis to name a few - is truly unmatched in our region, and supported by a legacy of groundbreaking research and innovation," said Marlene Miller, MD, MSc, Pediatrician-in-Chief at UH and Chair of Pediatrics at UH Rainbow and Marsha L. Antonucci Distinguished Chair of Pediatrics. "First and foremost, our mission is to deliver the highest-quality, family-centered care."

"Our commitment to surgical innovation has helped elevate UH Rainbow to the top of the U.S. News rankings," said Michael P. Glotzbecker, MD, MBA, Chief, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Interim Surgeon-in-Chief, UH Rainbow, and George H Thompson Chair in Pediatric Orthopedics. "From robotic-assisted deformity surgery to 3-D printed guides and novel techniques like vertebral body tethering, we are at the forefront of spinal care. Our collaborative approach across medical and surgical specialties ensures that every child has access to the highest quality care for even the most complex conditions."

This year's rankings highlighted UH Rainbow's commitment to embracing complex conditions. "We applaud U.S. News for recognizing the difficult issues of mental and behavioral health facing children and families in homes, schools and everywhere kids spend time," said Charles Macias, MD, MPH, Chief Quality Officer at UH Rainbow. "Over the past few years, our team has launched more than 180 quality initiatives that have strengthened outcomes and advanced patient safety, even tackling the mental and behavioral health crisis with innovative interventions that span care continuums across all of Northeast Ohio."

This recognition comes in addition to another recent honor: in July, U.S. News named UH Cleveland Medical Center to its Best Hospitals list for the 27th consecutive year.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on data collected from 108 children's hospitals nationwide, as well as surveys from thousands of pediatric specialists. Hospitals that receive a "Best" designation excel in clinical outcomes, hospital resources, and expert reputation.
