Penn State Altoona forward Avana Sayles, of Venetia, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's basketball, the league office announced Dec. 1.
LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona forward Avana Sayles, of Venetia, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's basketball, the league office announced Dec. 1.
In the Lions' 69-49 victory over nonconference opponent Lycoming last Tuesday, Sayles notched her third double-double of the season, getting 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sayles also recorded three blocks, two steals and one assist.
Sayles ranks fifth in points per game with 15.5 and fifth in rebounds per game with 8.5. On defense, Sayles ranks fourth in blocks per game with 1.2 and third in defensive ratings (DEF/G) with a rating of 6.3.
This is Sayles' first AMCC Player of the Week award this season and the fourth of her collegiate career.
Penn State women's basketball is 4-2 overall this season. The Lions play their first AMCC game on Dec. 3 when they take on Pitt Greensburg in the Adler Athletic Complex Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
