On Thursday, Sept. 18, Waynesburg University's Department of Business Administration hosted its Accounting and Finance Consortium Interview Day. The event was held to connect employers with University students through virtual interviews. Students received valuable experience moving from interview to interview, while employers connected with students who will soon be entering the job market.
Eight students participated in this year's interview day, including Emma Shashura, Justin Pasko, Nathan Bennett, Olivia Kale, Simbarashe Dube, Sydney Kratsas, Trent Giraffa and Zach Reed. In total, the students participated in 26 interviews.
"This is the highest number of students we've had selected for interviews at this event in five-plus years," Sarah Bell, director of the Pathways Center and event coordinator, said.
To prepare for the event, students submitted resumes based on the open positions the employers had available. The employers then selected the students they were most interested in interviewing. UPMC, First National Bank, McClintock & Associates and PNC were among the 14 participating firms and businesses. While not all of them were looking to recruit students, many came looking to fill internship roles and job opportunities. Participating students are now encouraged to apply for the roles at the employers with whom they interviewed.
"The accounting and finance interview day was a great opportunity to have worthwhile interview opportunities with companies that have shown interest in bringing us on as interns and to learn more about the firms in the area," said junior forensic accounting major Justin Pasko. "I feel that it really helped prepare me for any other professional interviews that I will encounter in my career."
"For students, this event can be a stepping stone to their careers," said Associate Professor of Business Administration William Stough, who was instrumental in encouraging students to participate.
Consistently ranked a best value school, Waynesburg University's Strategy for the 21st Century affirms its commitment to developing an entrepreneurial mindset and ethical leadership skills for all students. Rooted in its mission of faith, learning and service, the private, Christian university is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania.
