Dover Man Charged in Courthouse Sexual Assault

DOVER, Del. - The Delaware Capitol Police have arrested Tyreen Williams, 30, of Dover in connection with a sexual assault involving a woman near the Kent County Courthouse. The assault allegedly occurred late Saturday night in the courthouse courtyard, which the local homeless community has found to be a safe, well-lit area with access to electrical outlets for charging cell phones.

Immediately following the reported incident, Capitol Police detectives launched an investigation in collaboration with its Intelligence Officer, the Dover Police Department, and the Delaware Department of Justice. Williams, a Tier 2 registered sex offender in Delaware, was quickly identified as a suspect and arrested.

"This arrest is a testament to the outstanding partnerships that exist among Delaware's law enforcement agencies and prosecutors," said Capitol Police Chief William Thompson.

"This investigation also demonstrated the value of the Capitol Police Intelligence Officer's assignment to the Delaware Information & Analysis Center (DIAC), with the support of Delaware State Police Colonel William Crotty. This close coordination enabled investigators to rapidly share intelligence and bring the case to a successful resolution."

Williams was charged with the following offenses and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $62,000 cash bail.
