Man Facing Charges for Assaulting MNPD Officer After Fleeing from Crashes

Officers have sworn out arrest warrants charging Tafari McIntosh, 35, with felony assault on a police officer, leaving the scenes of three crashes, and DUI for his violent actions this morning in South Nashville.

The officer with whom McIntosh fought, Bailee Mathers, a three-year MNPD veteran who was in the immediate area working an extra-duty school safety initiative assignment at Una Elementary School, has been treated at a local hospital and released.

This morning officers responded to hit and run collisions at 1400 Eagle View Boulevard, 2615 Murfreesboro Pike, and then at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Ransom Place. All occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Witnesses to the Murfreesboro Pike/Ransom Place collision saw the offending driver, McIntosh, exit a Nissan Altima through the sunroof and walk away from the scene. Officer Mathers was alerted to the crash by parents and monitored the goings on via her police radio. She drove to a nearby carwash and spotted McIntosh walking along the roadway and attempted to stop him. McIntosh resisted and struck Officer Mathers multiple times. She used her Taser in an attempt to bring McIntosh under control. He ripped the Taser probes from his body and began to attack Officer Mathers again. At that point, community members joined in helping her subdue McIntosh.

McIntosh was sweating profusely and appeared to be under the influence of some type drug. He was taken to General Hospital for evaluation and will be taken to booking upon his discharge.
