Severe weather can cause power outages and disruption to mobile, phone and broadband services. When severe weather is forecast, taking a few simple steps in advance can help you stay connected.
Fully charge your mobile phone, tablet, laptop and any other essential devices. Keep your mobile power bank fully charged too.
If you use a prepay mobile, make sure you have enough credit to stay in touch. Remember, you can still call the emergency services on 112 or 999 even if you have no credit.
Write down important contact numbers, such as those for family, neighbours, carers or your GP, in case your phone runs out of power. You can also set up emergency contacts and Medical ID information on your mobile phone.
If you have a disability or additional needs, let your service provider know so they are aware of any support you may require. Older customers with additional needs can also check whether their provider offers a dedicated contact channel or other support services.
If the broadband network itself remains powered, a suitable battery back-up can temporarily power your router and modem during a power outage and help you stay connected to the internet.
