Nearly 150 Groups Support Restoring Access to Minnesota’s Mineral Resources

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the National Mining Association (NMA) released a joint letter to congressional leadership with the signatures of nearly 150 labor, tribal, manufacturing, mining, energy, municipality, economic development organizations and more, in support of restoring access to Minnesota's mineral resources. The group of companies and organizations voiced their support of House Joint Resolution 140, which is being considered this week by Congress and will reverse the 2023 federal mineral withdrawal of 225,000+ acres of federal lands in northeast Minnesota that are home to the world's largest known undeveloped deposits of copper, nickel, cobalt and platinum group metals resources.

NMA President and CEO Rich Nolan commented, "The widespread bipartisan support of this Congressional Review Act resolution shows a broad understanding of the need to reverse this groundless land withdrawal. We are in a global race to secure the metals and minerals required for a secure economy and national defense-and we should be sourcing them here at home, where we have the world's most rigorous environmental, safety and labor laws. We simply can't afford to let needless, outdated policies stand in the way of responsible mining projects in our country while China strengthens its global minerals monopoly. We urge Congress to ensure that made in America is also mined in America by passing this CRA and sending it to the President's desk."
