Former Senior DOJ and White House Official Stuart McCommas Joins Boies Schiller Flexner

Boies Schiller Flexner LLP announced today that Stuart McCommas, the former chief of staff at the Department of Justice and deputy White House counsel, will join the firm's Washington, D.C. office as a partner on September 1, focusing on high-stakes litigation, investigations, crisis management, and regulatory and intellectual property matters.

Stuart brings senior government experience and strategic insight from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the White House, along with extensive litigation experience in federal courts across the country. Stuart previously served as chief of staff and senior counselor at the DOJ, where he managed the attorney general's office, led congressional oversight strategy and crisis management, provided counsel on all major civil, criminal, antitrust, and national security matters, and oversaw the DOJ's 115,000 employees.

Before joining the DOJ, Stuart served as deputy White House counsel, where he managed all civil litigation related to the president and the administration, developing litigation strategy as well as drafting and reviewing briefs on cases that resulted in 24 wins at the U.S. Supreme Court and many other victories in district and appellate courts.

Having served on the leadership teams of two attorneys general at the DOJ and advised multiple White House counsels and the President of the United States, Stuart has worked on some of the most high-profile legal matters over the last ten years. In these leadership roles, he advised senior officials on litigation risk, congressional inquiries, sensitive enforcement matters, crisis management, and legal strategy for issues under intense public scrutiny. Most recently, Stuart was a key team member at the DOJ helping lead the Senate confirmation of the current attorney general of the United States.

Before entering government, Stuart practiced at prominent global law firms, managing every aspect of commercial and IP litigation, including discovery, depositions, witness preparation, trial, and appeal.

His arrival adds further depth to the firm's Washington, D.C. platform and complements the firm's work for clients facing novel litigation, government investigations, enforcement exposure, and crisis-driven disputes.
