Council green lights Mission Viejo Thrives, MV Shuttle and more

The City Council on Tuesday approved a small business grant program, continued operations of the MV Shuttle and raised awareness of a critical issue.

As part of an ongoing effort to enhance economic development in the City, Council Members unanimously voted to award an agreement with the California State University, Fullerton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to support a "Mission Viejo Thrives" small business grant program designed to foster economic vitality and business growth within the community. Through this partnership, the SBDC will provide technical assistance, training, and consulting services to Mission Viejo businesses through grant-supported business improvement and digital marketing programs.

Council Members also awarded an agreement to continue MV Shuttle operations. With the lion's share funded by the Orange County Transportation Association Project V funding program, the Shuttle offers riders a free and convenient way to get around town.

During the presentation portion of the evening, the Council proclaimed this time of the year as Drowning Prevention and Awareness Season. With the importance of raising drowning prevention awareness year-round and particularly during warmer months, Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Cheyne Maule discussed this critical topic. The need is certainly there - as drowning remains a leading cause of injury-related deaths among children under five in California.

Council Members also proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month and issued a proclamation recognizing the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. Part of that presentation included history and details of the City's upcoming special Mission Viejo Parade that takes place at 9 am on Saturday, July 11.

The City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
