ATLANTA - State Representative Derrick Jackson (D-Tyrone) today issued the following statement regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) recent search of the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center in Union City:
"This raid, which saw federal agents seize hundreds of boxes of ballots from the 2020 General Election, occurred within the heart of my district, House District 68, and has sparked immediate concerns regarding federal overreach and the violation of constitutional protections. This federal intervention was an unwarranted assault on local governance and the privacy of Georgia's voters
"I don't recognize this county in which I have served 22 years in the Navy. This is the clear reason that the rule of law matters and without it-this will be reckless. To see federal agencies used as a tool to bypass established state protocols and seize ballots that have already been certified, audited and litigated multiples times is a bridge too far. This isn't just an administrative dispute; it is an unconstitutional intrusion into the sovereignty of our local elections.
"The raid took place yesterday at the Campbellton Fairburn Road facility, where agents reportedly loaded more than 700 boxes into trucks. Despite claims of a court-authorized warrant, I joined other local leaders in demanding an immediate release of the legal justifications for the action, noting that such a move bypasses Georgia law, which strictly governs the unsealing of ballots.
"As someone who spent over two decades defending the constitution in uniform, I am appalled to see it treated as a suggestion rather than a mandate. When the preeminent law enforcement agency in the world is deployed to chase debunked narratives in a warehouse in South Fulton, it undermines the very fabric of our democracy. We must return to a state where the rule of law is respected, not weaponized for political theater.
"I am calling for an immediate inquiry into the scope of the warrant and the chain of custody for the seized materials. I remain committed to ensuring that the residents of House District 68 and the broader Fulton County community are not intimidated by federal overreach."
