Chinese Consul General in Belfast Li Nan Visits Fermanagh and Omagh District

On September 9, Chinese Consul General Li Nan paid a visit to Fermanagh and Omagh District in Northern Ireland, met with Chair Cllr. Barry McElduff, Chief Executive Ms. Alison McCullagh, and held discussions with representatives from various sectors of the city. Both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on expanding cooperation across various fields.

Consul General Li spoke highly of the close exchanges between Fermanagh and Omagh and its sister city Huangshi in China, noting that local-level collaboration serves as a solid foundation for China-UK relations. He expressed hope that both sides would actively explore new areas of collaboration, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, and better leverage complementary strengths to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. The Consulate General will continue to serve as a bridge and facilitator in this regard.

Cllr. McElduff provided an overview of the district's rich history, cultural heritage, and economic development, and accompanied Consul General Li on a visit to the historic Devenish Island. He emphasized the Council's strong commitment to developing ties with China and expressed hope that enhanced cooperation with Chinese counterparts would contribute to the Council's own sustainable growth and prosperity.
