This spring, the Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago invites the community to experience "Modern Quilt Studio" by professional quiltmakers Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr. The show runs March 16 through May 1, 2026, and is free and open to the public. A reception will be held in the gallery on Sunday, April 12, from 1 to 3 p.m., with an artist talk at 2 p.m.
"In the arena of modern quilt-making, Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr are a powerhouse team that delivers exquisite, ground-breaking designs using their own original fabrics coupled with compositionally mesmerizing rhythms and repetitions. Their quilts are a captivating blend of fine art embedded with innovation, functionality, and comfort," said Professor Nikkole Huss, Concordia-Chicago's Arts department program leader and Ferguson Art Gallery director.
The "Modern Quilt Studio" exhibit celebrates Ringle's and Kerr's 27 years of artistry, craftsmanship, and innovation as pioneers of the modern quilt movement. Together, the artists reimagine the possibilities of the American quilt as being expressive of conceptual modern design, characterized by vibrant colors, unique patterns, and bold aesthetics.
Ringle's and Kerr's works have been published in The New York Times, TIME magazine, O: The Oprah Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, American Patchwork & Quilting, and Country Living, among others. Co-founders of the Modern Quilt Studio in Oak Park, Ill., the two have taught extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, England, Australia, and France. In addition, Ringle teaches two online classes, and Kerr is director of the Graphic Design program at Dominican University.
The Ferguson Art Gallery is located in Kretzmann Hall at Concordia-Chicago, 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, Ill. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 to 6 p.m.
