ANGOLA, Ind. - Oct. 7, 2026 - Orthopedic surgeon Micah Smith, MD, has joined Dr. Michael Rosen at the Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) - Orthopedics office at 3270 Intertech Drive, Angola, and is providing state-of-the-art care for Steuben County patients.
"We are really pleased that Dr. Smith has chosen to help serve the growing need for highly specialized orthopedic care in Steuben County," said Julie Wilson, market president, Parkview Health Northeast. "His expertise will make a huge difference for patients with debilitating conditions. We are fortunate to have the talents of such high-caliber surgeons as Dr. Smith and Dr. Rosen available to area residents."
Smith, an Ortho Northeast (ONE) physician, cares for patients dealing with a multitude of medical conditions related to the spine and the surrounding network of nerves. A partial list of the conditions he treats includes sciatica, scoliosis, disc degeneration/herniation, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, leg pain with numbness and tingling, bone fracture, SI joint pain, anterior lumbar fusion, and shoulder pain with weakness/numbness in fingers and hands. He has a particular interest in cervical spine, deformities and minimally invasive surgery.
A northwest Indiana native who graduated from Wabash College with a bachelor's degree in biology, Smith earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his first three years of orthopedic residency training in Fort Wayne before finishing at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Calif. He received his spine fellowship training at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, where he worked with both the orthopedic spine and neurosurgery teams.
"My wife and I completely loved living in the Fort Wayne area during those three years of residency," Smith said. "Before leaving, ONE asked me to come back, and we were ecstatic at the possibility."
Board certified in orthopedic medicine, Smith is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and holds membership in the North American Spine Society, AO Spine, and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
He prides himself on providing patient-centered care and, depending on the situation, that typically means beginning with non-surgical treatment options - such as medications, physical therapy, injections and chiropractic care - and progressing to surgery only when necessary.
"I try to maximize conservative treatment options," said Smith. "When it comes to surgery, however, I offer many options, allowing me to provide care based on each person's specific needs. Sometimes this is a minimally invasive approach, and sometimes it is a more open, traditional approach. It might be a motion-preserving surgery - for example, decompression, discectomy or a disc replacement - or a fusion, or a combination of both."
"I simply love taking care of patients and getting them back to enjoying life," Smith continued. "I work hard to provide the highest level of care using innovative and minimally invasive techniques when appropriate and treat each patient as an individual."
Outside of work, Smith enjoys reading, various fitness activities, participating in autocross and grilling out. He and his wife visit their two sons at college whenever they can.

Rosen's training also focused on regenerative medicine.
Prior to medical school, he earned bachelor's degrees in both nutritional science and human biology from MSU.

He holds membership in multiple professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Indiana Orthopedic Society and Fort Wayne Medical Society, among others.
"My approach to patient care is holistic, focusing on the whole person and thoroughly addressing their needs based on their occupation and hobbies," Rosen said. "I strive to provide comprehensive care, including operative and non-operative treatments, while empowering patients to make informed decisions. It's fulfilling to help patients regain their quality of life, find pain relief and return from injury."
Away from the office, Rosen enjoys family time with his wife and three children, watching sports, and outdoor recreation such as golfing and spending time on the lake. He also serves as head team physician for Trine University athletics.
