Brian Shaw Recognized with Pro Bono Award from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois

CHICAGO, May 1, 2026 - Brian Shaw, a member of Cozen O'Connor's Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Restructuring Practice, has been honored with a pro bono award by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The recognition was presented on May 1, 2026, during the court's annual Awards for Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service.

The pro bono and public interest awards recognize attorneys who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to serving individuals with the greatest need for legal assistance before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Shaw was recognized for his work as a co-chair of the 2025 National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Chicago Conference Opening Reception Committee.

Shaw, a resident in Cozen O'Connor's Chicago office, focuses his practice on financial restructuring, bankruptcy, and other in-and-out of court distressed solutions, along with attendant litigation, representing debtors, creditors, and other parties-in-interests in proceedings throughout the country.

For more than 30 years, he has guided Chapter 11 debtors, Chapter 7 and 11 trustees, creditors' and noteholders' committees, assignees, landlords, liquidating trustees, labor organizations, preference and fraudulent conveyance defendants, receivers, and secured and unsecured creditors through all aspects of bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring.

Shaw was recently appointed to a two-year term as chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Bankruptcy. He previously served as president of the American Bankruptcy Institute and chair of the Chicago Bar Association's Bankruptcy and Reorganization Section.

He has earned numerous accolades from Chambers and Partners USA, Super Lawyers, Lawdragon, and Best Lawyers in America. Shaw is also a regular contributor to Law360 on bankruptcy issues.

Shaw received his law degree, magna cum laude, from The University of Illinois College of Law and his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Tufts University.
