NORAD, USNORTHCOM Host Legal Summit to Drive Operational Resilience
The NORAD & USNORTHCOM Legal Conference concluded on 20 Aug after three days focused on the theme: Building Operational Resilience and Translating it into Legal Clarity.
Participants examined NORAD and USNORTHCOM key legal topics, including the establishment of new organizations, intelligence oversight, Southern Border operations, Defense Support of Civil Authorities, counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems authorities, increased security cooperation initiatives with Mexico, expansion of operations in Greenland and in the Arctic. Senior lawyers from across the Department of War, including The General Counsel, as well as The Judge Advocates General of the Services and the Canadian Armed Forces, provided invaluable insight and mentorship, and attendees engaged in scenario-based exercises to strengthen both legal advisors' ability to deliver clear legal counsel in complex environments and interagency and bi-national legal interoperability.
