Preliminary data from the Maricopa County Heat Relief Network suggests there were fewer heat-related deaths this year.

As of the week ending Sept. 20, there have been 156 confirmed heat-related deaths in 2025, compared to 265 during the same period in 2024. Deaths under investigation have also dropped, with 370 currently under review, down from 652 at this time last year.

These early figures come alongside a range of initiatives aimed at preventing heat-related illness. There were 10 heat relief centers in Tempe this season.
