UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW's Ruckelshaus Institute, of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, has been engaged to study the economic relationship between Wyoming's Teton County and Teton County, Idaho, according to the Jackson Hole News & Guide. Expansion of the Grand Targhee ski resort is at the heart of the discussion regarding a possible revenue-sharing agreement between the counties.

In a Marketplace piece about the resurgence of Wyoming's uranium industry, UW geologist Robert Gregory notes its boom-and-bust history.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW's press release about the university renewing its partnership with the Buffalo Bills. The agreement aims to increase the university's brand awareness while building a student recruitment pipeline. UW will engage in marketing and recruitment activities in the days leading up to and during Buffalo's Nov. 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens. 7720sports.com, Cowboy State Daily and Spectrum News 1 in Buffalo, N.Y., also ran stories about the renewed partnership.

Ben Kern, an associate professor of physical education in the UW Department of Kinesiology and Health, was interviewed by WyoFile for a story about a research study Kern conducted with colleagues around the country. The study found Wyoming elementary students only receive about 73 minutes per week of physical education, which is about half of national recommended guidelines.

Wyoming Public Media covered the first meeting of UW's Budget Footnote Working Group. Wyoming Public Media also interviewed Nancy Fleming about how cheatgrass makes more frequent fires more likely. Fleming is the Wind River Big Horn Basin District invasive annual grass coordinator for UW.

High Plains Journal published a story about UW's Institute for Managing Annual Grasses Invading Natural Ecosystems releasing two short films highlighting cheatgrass management efforts in Carbon and Sublette counties.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle wrote a feature story about Dan Fetsco, a UW criminal justice professor, who competed in the "Escape from Alcatraz," a near-26-mile triathlon in San Francisco June 7.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle also wrote a story about Parker Brennan, a University of Wyoming sophomore music major from Cheyenne, who is among 10 UW students who have been selected for the highly competitive U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.

Additionally, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle published a story listing four UW students from Cheyenne who were part of a group of 26 students inducted into UW's Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, as well as UW's press release announcing Adrienne Freng as UW's vice provost for faculty affairs.

SweetwaterNow published a story about Shad Frazier and Kellen McBurnett, two Rock Springs High School graduates, who each received a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. Frazier will attend UW in the fall and major in construction management, while McBurnett will major in mechanical engineering this fall at UW.

Sheridan Media, the Powell Tribune, the Riverton Ranger, Goshen County News and Wyoming News Now ran a UW Extension press release about a webinar series on managing landscapes during a drought.

The Laramie Boomerang published UW's press release on hosting the inaugural Community College Summer Institute. The Laramie Boomerang also published the June schedule for the UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium.

In a story about the upcoming College National Finals Rodeo in Casper June 14-20, Wyoming Livestock Roundup mentioned a number of UW rodeo team members who will be competing.
