Bettendorf’s Ed Scheck Park Reveals New Playground

Bettendorf's Ed Scheck Park Reveals New Playground September 8, 2025 - Playground Now Open!August 28, 2025 - It's nearly time to slide, swing, and spin at the area's newest playground! On Monday, September 8, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., the City of Bettendorf will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Ed Scheck Park (4792 Mayfield Drive), where a brand-new $150,000 state-of-the-art playground system was recently installed (see earlier press release below). The public is invited to attend and be the first to enjoy this fun new amenity. "Ed Scheck Park hosted one of the City's oldest playgrounds and now will be updated to meet our City's standard of a safe, premier new playground for our residents to enjoy," said John Byrnes, Parks & Recreation Director. August 6, 2025 - Starting Thursday, August 7, 2025, the City of Bettendorf's Ed Scheck Park (4792 Mayfield Drive) is going to start looking very different as Parks Maintenance Crews and BCI Burke Company, LLC (Burke) replace the existing playground and all its equipment with a brand-new $150,000 state-of-the-art playground system. The new playground system includes three separate features - an upgraded swing set, a playground specifically for 2-5 year olds, and a playground specifically for 5-12 year olds. "Meeting our City's functional, environmental, and safety requirements, the new commercial-grade playground at Ed Scheck Park will be constructed within the existing play area," said John Byrnes, Parks & Recreation Director. "We look forward to seeing children and their families play, explore, learn, and simply enjoy this wonderful new amenity!" The renovation focuses specifically on removing the older playground equipment and installing a modern playground for all ages. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2025, weather permitting. You can follow the progress by visiting a special webpage created for this project. The rest of Ed Scheck Park, including the shelter and baseball field, will remain open as construction occurs in the playground area. This project is funded within the City's Community Improvement Program (CIP) in FY2026. On April 15, 2025, Bettendorf City Council approved a purchase order to Burke to provide and install the equipment, which has been used in several other parks across the City. Located at 4792 Mayfield Drive, Ed Scheck Park is one of the City's oldest parks and includes a shelter, ball field, and restrooms. Other recent and ongoing improvements include: Adding a modern batting cage Installing landscaping beds and new signs Upgrading the baseball field with covered dugouts and new fencing Share this page Share this page × Copy and paste this code into your website. https://http://www.bettendorf.org/news_detail_T11_R335.php">Your Link Name Share this page on your favorite Social network Facebook Twitter Reddit Close Please ensure Javascript is enabled for purposes of website accessibility
