UPDATE: Man Booked for Murder Following Hazelwood Homicide Investigation

The man detained at the scene of the reported stabbing in the Hazelwood Neighborhood this morning has been booked into jail for murder.

Following an investigation, Homicide Detectives booked Jason A. Norwest, 41, of Portland, into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence) and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

The name of the victim and cause and manner of death will be released following an autopsy by the medical examiner and after family has been notified.

Woman Found Deceased Following a Reported Stabbing, Man Detained

A man has been detained by police following a stabbing call in the Hazelwood Neighborhood that left a woman deceased.

On Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 6:13 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to the report of a disturbance at an apartment in the 12600 block of Southeast Stark Street. When they arrived, they were told that a woman had been stabbed inside the apartment. Officers discovered a woman deceased at the scene.

A man was detained at the scene. At this time, no suspects are being sought by police.

Portland Police Homicide Unit Detectives are responding to the scene to investigate the case. During the investigation, officers have one lane of Southeast Stark Street closed between Southeast 125th Avenue and Southeast 126th Avenue. Another lane is open, allowing traffic to pass by.
