Area credit unions have reached a significant fundraising milestone, fulfilling a seven-year commitment to raise $3 million for Children's National Hospital. The funds help support the 258,000 children who receive lifesaving care annually from the hospital.
In recognition of the credit union community's longstanding philanthropic support, Children's National named its emergency department waiting area the Capital Area Credit Unions Waiting Area in 2019. At that time, area credit unions pledged to raise an additional $3 million for the hospital. That goal has now officially been met, and earlier this week Children's National hosted tours and took commemorative photos to acknowledge the generous support from credit union employees, members, and business partners.
"As credit unions, we are known for our collaborative spirit and our commitment to the communities we serve," said John Bratsakis, president and CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association and Chair of Credit Union Miracle Day. "Working with Children's National Hospital, the contributions made by credit unions and our business partners help connect young patients and their families with the best medical care and support when they need it. Reaching this fundraising milestone is a powerful reflection of the 'people helping people' philosophy at the heart of the credit union movement."
Children's National is one of the nation's leading pediatric hospitals. Philanthropic support from partners like the credit union community helps advance its mission of delivering exceptional care and life-changing treatments for children and families.
Over more than 25 years, local area credit union employees and members have raised a total of more than $8M for Children's National which is part of the Children's Miracle Network.
